Lefkandi is a beautiful coastal resort located in Central Evia, in a distance of 12km south of Chalkida and is facing the southern Evoikos bay.

Although Lefkandi is a great spot for any sport (windsurfing, kitesurf, SUP etc), the wind conditions along with the wide sandy beach makes it best-known for kiteboarding (not only for practicing but also for learning).

Because of its geographical position in between the mainland and Evia Island, the topical phenomenon of thermal wind together with the “Venturi” creates very good conditions for wind/kitesurfing almost daily after 15:00.

Best wind directions are SE and E but the spot also works with S, SW and W winds. The strength of wind is 15 to 25 knots with mostly side-shore direction which makes the spot completely safe and ideal for practicing. You can sale 85% of the days from April till mid of October. Most of the time thermal wind is stronger here than in Chalkoutsi.

If you are a kitesurfer, the best kite sizes are 12 and 9 but often 7 meter kites are also used. The weather usually is sunny, 30-40°C. Good to have a 3mm wetsuit.

Notice: Due to thermal wind factor in the area, real conditions don’t appear on most of the forecasts when the wind direction is E, SE and NE less than 8-10 knots.

Lying at distance of 12 km from Chalkida and 16 km from Eretria, the spot is at the waterfront edge and 10 minutes walking from the picturesque village of Lefkadi.

Access to Lefkandi from Athens:

Arrival by Car, Moto, Camper Van: Lefkandi is approximately 87 km away from the Greek capital. Take the E75 Athens-Lamia National Road towards Lamia and then follow the road signs for Chalkida. Then drive southern, take the main road to Aliveri and when you entry into Vasilikos Town turn right after Vardoil Gus Station. The spot is at the end of the road, on your left.

Arrival by Train: The northern terminal of line 1 of Athens suburban railway (Proastiakos) is in Chalkida. From there you can take a taxi. Lefkandi is 12 km southern of the City.

Arrival by Bus: Intercity buses (KTEL) from Attica, Liosion City (near Kato Patisia "Electric" train Station) to Aliveri every day. You can stop to Vasilikos and then take a taxi (the distance is 4 km).

Access to Lefkandi from Thessaloniki:

Arrival by Car, Moto, Camper Van: The city can be reached by Athens-Thessaloniki National Road. At Shimatari (after Thiva) turn left. The total distance is 464 km.

Arrival by Train: It is not possible to travel directly by train from Thessaloniki to Chalkida without changing trains but some trains run on lines Thessaloniki-Athens and Athens-Chalkida allowing you to make the entire trip only by rail.

Trains of TrainOSE to Athens leave from Thessaloniki railway station in Thessaloniki. Arrival in Athens will take place at Athens station (0.9 mi from the city centre). Correspondence or change is required in Athens where the train operated by TrainOSE leave for Chalkida. A taxi will take you to the spot. Lefkandi is 12 km southern of the City.

Arrival by Airplane: No flight allows you to fly directly to Chalkida from Thessaloniki. You can take the flight Thessaloniki-Athens and complete the other part of your journey traveling by train or bus and then taxi.

Leave Thessaloniki and arrive early enough (at least 2 hours before the departure time) at Makedonia SKG airport, 7.5 mi away, to check in your luggage for the flight to Athens (Eleftherios Venizelos International airport, IATA code: ATH).

Access to Athens:

Arrival by Airplane: The new airport of Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos”, one of the best airports in Europe, (IATA: ATH, ICAO: LGAV) is located in Spata Town and serves flights to Greece daily from several international airlines from all over the world. You can take a charter flight, so you can carry your windsurf equipment with you as well.

The metro and the Proastiakos-Suburban railway, as well as taxis and buses to and from Athens are to be found opposite the main exit of the airport. The distance is 44 km. The bus journey takes between 35 and 45 minutes to the city centre at Syntagma (Parliament) Square (of course depending on the time and traffic), therefore the best way is to take the “Athens metro” that connects the airport with Athens and Piraeus. There are car hire agencies at the airport, in case you want to rent a vehicle.

Arrival by Ferry/Boat: If you are coming from the European continent and you prefer to take the ferry from an Italian Port, you need to head towards Italy and the Italian ports of Ancona, Venice Bari or Brindisi. Those ports have daily connections to Corfu, Igoumenitsa and Patras. If you are coming from Aegean Sea (from a Greek Island, Turkey or Cyprus) you will reach one of the Attica’s Ports in Piraeus, Rafina or Lavrio Town.

Arrival by Car, Moto, Camper Van: If you’re coming by Ferry from an Italian port, Patra is about 211 km away from the center of Athens and Igoumenitsa is about 445 km. There are some good highways a like the Corinth-Athens and the Athens-Larissa, Corinth-Tripoli and the Egnatia highway.

Arrival by Train: Train travel is not so much in fashion anymore due to the complexity of the journey through the Balkans. Rail services link Thessaloniki with, Athens, Thrace and Patra. The line through what was once Yugoslavia provides connections with Central and Western Europe. The line through Bulgaria connects to Eastern Europe and the line through Istanbul, Turkey with the countries of the Near East.

If you choose to come to Attica by train, when you’ll arrive to “Stathmos Larissis” station, you’ll get the metro Line 2 with direction to “Agios Dimitrios” and after four stops you’ll arrive to Syntagma.
