Paximada beach -named after the cape at the location- is at the southern part of Evia, near Karystos (aprox. 10 km).

Here you can find strong winds, especially when you go away from the north side of the coast and heading south-west, winds that promise great windsurfing. The Cavodoro Straits (east coast of Karystia) are often subject to strong and lasting north winds and windsurfing in the more enclosed bays can be very exciting. This is the case for the north-facing coastline of Karystia.

Αt South Evia northern winds are blowing during most of the summer period. They are more frequent and constant during August ("Meltemi" season). Here the coastline forms an open, extended little bay with low waves and moderate wind which blows towards the shore and not the open sea.

In the south-west side of the bay of Karystos the wind becomes stronger gradually as you go further away from the north side of the coast and heading south-west.

To go to Paximada, first you have to reach Karystos Town:

Arrival by Car, Moto, Camper Van: There are 3 routes to reach Karystos with your own vehicle:

  • The first route is by road from Chalkida. The distance to Chalkida (through Athens-Thessaloniki National Road) from Athens is 77 km and from Thessaloniki is 455 km. Karystos is 114 km away from Chalkida, at the southern end of Evia Island. If you came to Karystos from Athens and missed the last ship route, this is your only choice to come back.
  • The second route is from the port of Rafina (on the east coast of Attica) to the port of Marmari (in the southwest of Evia Island). There are daily departures all year round. The distance from Athens to Rafina is 32 km and Rafina to Karystos is 13 km. It takes an hour and 15 minutes to reach Marmari by ship.
  • The third route is from the port of Agia Marina (on the east coast of Attica) to the port of Nea Styra (in the southwest of Evia Island). There are daily departures all year round. The distance from Athens to Agia Marina is 57 km and Nea Styra to Paximada is 40 km. It takes an hour to reach Nea Styra by ship.

Arrival by Bus: Often itineraries with intercity buses (KTEL) from Attica, Liosion City (near Kato Patisia "Electric" train Station) to Karystos through Chalkida. There are also daily departures to Rafina and Styra Ports, from where you can go across to Evia by boat, and then you can reach Karystos also by bus.

Arrival by Train: The northern terminal of line 1 of Athens suburban railway (Proastiakos) is in Chalkida. From there you can take the bus.

To go to Paximada from Karystos you can only use your on vehicle or a taxi (in the second case don’t forget to have secured also your return). You follow the main coastal road to the west. About 7,5 km from the town centre the road goes over a hill, overlooking the beaches down below. Ahead of it and to the south you can see several small promontories which form a number of sheltered beaches. These are the beaches of Agia Paraskevi.

Due to the future housing development in the area, there are several asphalted roads that lead to various parts of the coast; hence, four of these beaches are very easily accessible. The spot is the first and northern beach (with a small church at the east end). Southern of this beach there are many small bays (Laka Saravanou, the north beach of Agia Paraskevi, the south beach of Agia Paraskevi and Spitha).

Access to Athens:

Arrival by Airplane: The new airport of Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos”, one of the best airports in Europe, (IATA: ATH, ICAO: LGAV) is located in Spata Town and serves flights to Greece daily from several international airlines from all over the world. You can take a charter flight, so you can carry your windsurf equipment with you as well.

The metro and the Proastiakos-Suburban railway, as well as taxis and buses to and from Athens are to be found opposite the main exit of the airport. The distance is 44 km. The bus journey takes between 35 and 45 minutes to the city centre at Syntagma (Parliament) Square (of course depending on the time and traffic), therefore the best way is to take the “Athens metro” that connects the airport with Athens and Piraeus. There are car hire agencies at the airport, in case you want to rent a vehicle.

Arrival by Ferry/Boat: If you are coming from the European continent and you prefer to take the ferry from an Italian Port, you need to head towards Italy and the Italian ports of Ancona, Venice Bari or Brindisi. Those ports have daily connections to Corfu, Igoumenitsa and Patras. If you are coming from Aegean Sea (from a Greek Island, Turkey or Cyprus) you will reach one of the Attica’s Ports in Piraeus, Rafina or Lavrio Town.

Arrival by Car, Moto, Camper Van: If you’re coming by Ferry from an Italian port, Patra is about 211 km away from the center of Athens and Igoumenitsa is about 445 km. There are some good highways a like the Corinth-Athens and the Athens-Larissa, Corinth-Tripoli and the Egnatia highway.

Arrival by Train: Train travel is not so much in fashion anymore due to the complexity of the journey through the Balkans. Rail services link Thessaloniki with, Athens, Thrace and Patra. The line through what was once Yugoslavia provides connections with Central and Western Europe. The line through Bulgaria connects to Eastern Europe and the line through Istanbul, Turkey with the countries of the Near East.

If you choose to come to Attica by train, when you’ll arrive to “Stathmos Larissis” station, you’ll get the metro Line 2 with direction to “Agios Dimitrios” and after four stops you’ll arrive to Syntagma.
