Analipsis or Maltezana is in the eastern part of the island and it is the second largest settlement. It probably got its name from the Maltese pirates who used the bay as a safe hideout. The Analipsis development is particularly upward in recent years.

Access to Analipsis: The destination for Maltezana from Chora requires the passage of the Marmara beach. Then, from the narrowest point, the natural isthmus of Astypalea and after the airport. The spot is about 300-350 m SW from the local harbour. The beach is easily accessible by a short dirt road. Leave your car at the end of the beach (the spot is on your left as you look at the sea).

Analipsis has many regular routes serving local transport residents, visitors, connecting with Chora, Pera Gialos and Livadi.


Access to Astypalea: The island is located in the Dodecanese but is strongly influenced by the Cyclades. Basically, it is a "bridge" that connects the Cyclades and Dodecanese. It is located 23 nautical miles from Kos and 96 nautical miles from Rhodes.

Arrival by Airplane: The island has straight connections to Athens, 4 flights weekly. The flight from “Eleftherios Venizelos” Airport to Astypalea takes 1 hour. Also, it has connections to Athens from Rhodes via Leros and Kos, 3 times a week.

Arrival by Ferry/Boat: Frequent ferry routes from Piraeus to the port of Astypalea. There is also a local ferry connection to the island of Kalymnos. Moreover, Routes from Astypalaia to Kos, Nisiros, Tilos, Rodos, Kastelorizo.
