Kamari beach lies just north of Mount Prophitis Ilias, the highest point of Santorini, and beneath the approach of the island’s airport. The beach is popular because it’s big, with plenty of soft, grey volcanic sand to stretch out on. Volcanic sand doesn’t stick to your wet body like ordinary sand does. But on the other hand, it can get hot in the sun much more quickly.

The award winning Kamari beach is a Blue Flag beach because of its cleanliness, clear waters and good amenities. This has to be one of the best Santorini beaches. The sea can get a little choppy when an east wind blows.

Kamari is a very popular beach which can become a little crowded in the sunny summer months. The volcanic black sandy beach stretches seemingly endlessly and contrasts well with the turquoise clear waters, looking simply stunning.
Access to Kamari: Kamari is situated 10 km southeast of the capital of the island, Fira.
From Thira Airport:
Arrival by Bus: In front of the entrance hall is the bus stop for Thira. You ask the driver where you have to get off to get the bus for Kamari, or you are going to the terminal where you change bus for Kamari.
Arrival by Taxi: In front of the entrance hall is the taxi station. You are asking for Kamari beach.
Arrival by Car: When you are leaving the airport street you turn on your left. After a while you find on your right a gas station. In front of the gas station you turn left, direction Kamari.
From Athinios Port:
Arrival by Bus: You get the bus for Thira. Be careful the buses are not often and their schedule depends on ferry arrival / departure, so get sure that you are not losing time during your disembarkation. You go at the terminal where you change bus for Kamari.
Arrival by Taxi: You find the taxi drivers a few meters outside the ferry.
Arrival by Car: The port road is an uphill road and when is finishing you have to turn on your left. IMPORTANT: on the village indications Kamari is not mentioned. You continue until the first cross where you have to turn right, Pyrgos direction. After a while you turn on your left, direction Kamari. It is downhill road with many curves and when this road finishes you turn on your right. You find indications for Kamari. You can hire many of the 4-wheel bikes available for rent.
Access to Santorini:
Arrival by Airplane: You can reach Santorini by air and arrive at Santorini International Airport, located north of Kamari village, 6 km of Thira town, with regular flights of 45 minutes duration from Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport in Athens. During the summer season, you can reach Santorini with direct flights from many European countries.
Arrival by Ferry/Boat: Santorini Island features two ports; the main port is Athinios, which is 3 km south of Fira Town and where all the ferry and commercial boats arrive. There is also the Old Port, mostly used for cruise ships. There is a cable car travels from Fira harbor up to Fira town.
The main port to take you to Santorini from Athens is Piraeus, but there are also ferries departures, especially high-speed ferries, from the port of Rafina, which is closest to the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport, in Athens. There are two types of ferries; the high-speed ferry which takes approximately 4,5 hours and the normal ferry which is much slower and takes approximately 7 hours. You can also travel to Santorini by ferry from/to main Cyclades Islands.
Local Transportation: When you arrive in Santorini, you can either use the public transportation (local bus) or taxis or, even better, rent a car (or a motorbike in the summer).
Arrival by Car: You will find a multitude of car rentals, with the majority of them in Fira Town and in the Fira Harbor.
Arrival by Bus: You can easily travel around Santorini if you take the local bus service which is air-conditioned, reliable and really low cost; however, if you intent to stay on the Island more than 4 days and in order to be independent to move whenever and wherever you wish, it is worth hiring a car from one of the many car rental services you will find almost everywhere on the Island.
Travelling by bus within Santorini is safe but can be tricky as sometimes the timetables changes without prior notice. During summer, the buses depart every 30 minutes and the main bus depot is near the central square of Fira.
Arrival by Taxi: You can also get around Santorini by taxis; you will find the main taxi stand below Fira square. Taxis in Santorini are silver. You are advised to ask for the fare before getting in the taxi in order to avoid bad surprises. They can be hailed on the street or arrive by appointment.
