The beautiful beach of Agios Theologos (named after the small chapel of St. John the Theologian located just meters away from the shore) is found at a distance of some 46 km far from the town of Kos at the southwest, at the western precipitous coast of the island. It is perhaps the most remote beach of the island. However, it is not difficult at all to reach it and enjoy swimming and especially windsurf, kitesurf & surfing (because of the gentle waves), as it is only 6 km far from the inland village of Kefalos at the southwest.
It is a beach ideal for visitors wishing to enjoy something different, as the scenery you encounter is unique. A rocky coast with numerous bays that creates a sense of isolation, perfect for endless hours of sunbathing.

Main Wind Direction: Offshore, Onshore

Wave Tack: Port (from the left), Starboard (from the right)
The island's sole wave spot with frontside riding potential only works five to ten times a year as it needs strong north to north-westerly Meltemi for the wind to hit the impact zone. The beach break provides left and right handers. Best around low tide. The wind starts around noon and stops exactly with sunset. Usually 4,5-6 bft. It's experts only: rocks, strong currents and shorebreak demand full focus.
Offshore winds blow from the east and there is no shelter here from cross shore breezes.
In the other hand, the winter months have no regular wind patterns.
For kiters, a kilometer upwind there's a better launch spot: Kata Beach.
Quality: Crystal Clear
Depth: Shallow (walking several steps not to step on)
Seabed:
Attention: Rocks
Agios Theologos is a reasonably exposed beach break that has unreliable waves with no particular seasonal pattern. The short fetch makes for winds wells rather than groundswells and the best wave direction is from the north northwest.
It is a popular spot with windsurfers of intermediate and expert abilities. The fans of the sport use to say that it is the most convenient place to learn windsurfing, but if you are a beginner be careful of the rock hazards just off the shoreline.
Size: Small
Bathers Period: June, July, August

Attention: Rocks
The beach itself is quite coarse sand and pebbles with a wonderful mix of different types of stones. With its beautiful creeks and rocky coves it is ideal for hours of sunbathing and also suitable for windsurfing even if you’re a beginner to intermediate level. The landscape is quite different to other parts of the island with low growing wild juniper, pine and cupressus trees which lean in the direction of the prevailing winds.
The dirt road (about 5 km) which you have to cross is a minor drawback. Also, very often it is crowded.
Access to Theologos:
Agios Theologos is on the other side of the island, about 6 km west of the village of Kefalos. Access to the beach is via Kefalos either by bus that runs on a daily basis quite frequently or by car, taxi or motorbike.
Drive all the way to the west end of Kos and get to Kefalos. From the village you drive southwards for some 2 km and then turn to the right towards the western coast; from there you follow the signs (to Agios Ioannis Theologos) and arrive to the beach via a dirt, poor track. Watch the many sharp turns. The dirt long road (about 4 km) which you have to cross is a minor drawback. Be on the lookout for pot holes and goats!
