Sigri is ideal spot for freestyle windsurfing. Freestyle events take place as the European Windsurf Championship 2012, 2013 3style Area Cup.
It is also a very good kite spot, suitable for everyone. From beginners who are looking for a fun and an easy way to experience kitesurfing, to intermediate surfers wanting to improve their technique and level.
Sigri is a place for people who wants to spend their holidays far away from mass tourism. The scenery is magnificent, the land all around is wild and the combination of flat water and waves makes every windsurfer smile. It is a small fishing village near the western tip of Lesbos Island. Its name derives from the Greek word for security, based on the fact that it has a safe harbor. Also, it is the next most popular town after Petra or Molivos.

Wind statistics of Mytilene are not true for Sigri, since Mytilene is not affected by the "Meltemi". The spot works well in every wind direction. The main direction is North in summer and South in winter. The wind comes from the Black Sea and is accelerated by a thermal effect and the mountains around Sigri. Sigri is directly situated in the wind zone and both winds (N and S) blow through the village – this is why Sigri has such a good wind statistic and is a great spot all the year round. Usually ranging from 15-30 knots and sometimes even stronger.
The wind strength is not the same like the wind in the bay, because it comes through the two islands and gets stronger on the open sea. At the north end of Sigri bay the wind blows cross-off shore and this is the reason why the water is perfectly flat at that point. After about 30-40 meters you are in the freestyle corner. This makes the spot even more special. The wind gets stronger there and due to the flatwater, this place is ideal for learning any new maneuvers and just a great area for all freestylers.
For those into wave sailing there is also the option of sailing up into the channel, between Nissiopi and Sigri. You can surf into the channel directly from the windsurf center. But it's more for advanced surfers because you have to tack into the channel. If the wind is strong enough you can find some nice waves there!

The beach is 200 m near Sigri Village so all villagers go there for swimming. It has an amazing view to the Sigri Castle when facing the land, and a splendid view to the island of Nissiopi when facing the sea.

Access to Sigri: It will take 90 km from Mytilene to Sigri (all the way to the west of the island). The transfer takes about one hour and 50 minutes one way. You can also rent a car to reach the retreat location once you arrive at the airport.
It takes you about 15 minutes to walk from the village to the spot, and 5 minutes by bike. (You can either rent bikes at the surf center or in some hotels).
Access to Lesvos: The capital of Lesvos is Mytilene. The only Airport on the island is there, as the ferry is departing from there too.
Arrival by Airplane: The Mytilene International Airport "Odysseus Elytis" (MJT) is situated on the south eastern side of the island, 8 km out of Mytilene (capital). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request. It receives daily flights from Athens all year round and the flight time is 1 hour. It also receives flights from Thessaloniki 4-5 times per week operated by a small air company. In summer, another small air company has air connections between Lesvos, Heraklion (Crete), Rhodes, Samos, Chios and Lemnos. Furthermore, in the summertime there are more flights destinations and direct international flights from Germany's Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) and Munich Airport (MUC), Austria's Vienna International Airport (VIE), Great Britain's Gatwick Airport (LGW), and Slovenia's Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU).
Arrival by Ferry / Boat: Mytilene harbor has trips to Piraeus, the largest port of Athens, 4-5 times per week. This ferry also connects Lesvos with other islands, including Syros, Mykonos, Ikaria and Chios. The travel time takes about 10 hours. You can also travel by boat directly from Lavrion to Sigri Port. So for the weekend is excellent; every Friday from Lavrion, every Sunday night from Sigri. Also, there are trips from the harbor to Ayvalik (Turkey) every week. In summer, there are also ferries to Lesvos from the ports of Thessaloniki and Kavala on the northern side of Greece, as well as from other Aegean Islands, such as Samos, Kos, Rhodes, Lemnos, etc.
Local Transportation:
Bus Service: The urban bus station is at Sappho Square, the northern "top" of the inner harbour horseshoe waterfront. The inter-city bus station is near Agias Irinis Park in the southwest corner of the inner harbour.
Taxi Service: Taxis are cheap and the taxidrivers are obliged to use the taximeter. Taxis based in Mytilene are yellow. Taxis not based in Mytilene are grey-coloured. Taxis can be used for local transportation, transfers, and excursions.
